Several years in the making, we finally have the great Art Wolfe on our program today. Jack and John are honored to host this
amazing photographer and all-around fantastic guy on our podcast to talk about his latest book, Wild Lives, as well as his travels and experiences over the many years in photography. Due to the length of this discussion, we have broken it up in to 2 parts, this being part 1. In this episode we will talk about Arts new book and how he goes about capturing images for his many books throughout the years. We discuss his collaborator, Gregory Greene, who is a biologist and wrote the amazing essays in the latest book. We touch on his passion and motivation to continually produce amazing works over many years and across multiple genres. And then at the end of this episode, we start the discussion about what it’s like photographing grizzly bears in Katmai National Park.
In Arts newest book, Wild Lives explores the extraordinary diversity of species that inhabit the planet. Some are common, some rare, and many are conservation success stories, species that have been brought back from the edge of extinction. Over his forty-year career, Art Wolfe has photographed many species that were once on endangered species lists, but are now flourishing (such as the bald eagle and humpback whale). These recoveries are an uplifting testament to the resilience of life when it is given a chance. It contains hundreds of never before seen photographs across 352 pages! It is an incredible tome to international wildlife from one of the greats of our time.
